2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars and Guy D. Gundlach Memorial Scholars

Nine local students receive substantial scholarships. The Lilly Endowment, Inc. and the Community Foundation of Elkhart County are proud to honor nine outstanding students in Elkhart County. Three students from Elkhart County will receive Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships (LECS) entitling them to full tuition, fees and $900 a year for required books and equipment to any accredited public or private nonprofit college or university in Indiana. The selected students are: Lisa Hochstetler, Northridge; Claire Mumaw, Fairfield; and Alexa Porter, Concord. FEMALE GIVING CIRCLE SUPPORTS STUDENT-INITIATED PROGRAM

On, April 25th, members from the 100 Women Who Care Elkhart County presented $10,000 to the Middlebury Community Schools toward the No Raider Goes Hungry program. In the high school alone, 237 kids are on free lunch, additionally almost 200 students need reduced meals throughout the year. 100 Women Who Care awards $10,000 to Loveway Inc.

Molly Welch Miller has been part of 100 Women Who Caresince it began five years ago. “This was the first time I was picked to present and got lucky,” she said. She was also praying about her presentation on Loveway Inc., an agency in Bristol that provides therapeutic horseback riding for students with special needs from 22 Elkhart County Schools. Miller is on the board and has volunteered for the organization for many years. “I believe in their cause with how they’re using horses as therapy tools to help kids in the community. 100 Women Who Care support New Start Home with $10,000 donation

A new transitional home for victims of domestic violence is could open in the coming months and got a boost from female philanthropists. At the April gathering for 100 Women Who Care, Mindi Swihart’s name was drawn to tell those gathered about a cause in which she believes. As a board member of New Start Home, a faith-based initiative to help women impacted by violence, Swihart told of how Michelle Barnett has felt called to start a home and has a goal of raising $250,000 to fund operations for the first 18 months.
