2014-2015 First Quarter Grants Equal $837,390

The foundation has awarded a record-breaking $837,390 to organizations throughout the county focused on community, life and youth development, according to a press release from the foundation. This round of donations is for the first quarter of the 2014-15 fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. The organization plans on giving $4.5 million total through the end of the fiscal year.
The funds were awarded based on the foundation’s new model of giving away grants, which separates the awards into categories based on how the money will be used. The biggest recipients, in terms of dollar amounts, are Horizon Education Alliance ($100,000), Elkhart River Restoration Association ($100,000) and the Northern Indiana Hispanic Health Coalition ($60,000). Community Investment Grants, which account for $812,090 of the awards, were decided upon by committees of engaged community members, the press release stated. Good Neighbor Grants, which totaled $25,300, were awarded to eight organizations focused on community activities, small programs and projects, and grassroots groups.
