Join us this May for an opportunity to learn the basics and best practices for nonprofit accounting and bookkeeping from CPA/CGMA Margene Zink from Elkhart County’s Kruggel Lawton.

The Learning Center of the Community Foundation of Elkhart County offers free training for those working with Elkhart County nonprofits or nonprofits serving Elkhart County.

This workshop will provide opportunities for questions and will feature discussion on:

  • The basics and best practices for nonprofit accounting including a deep dive into form 990
  • Audits – why they are important
  • Policies and procedures on internal cash handling including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and monthly close outs

About our speaker:

Margene L. Zink, CPA, CGMA leads Kruggel Lawton’s nonprofit assurance and tax team in the firm’s Indiana offices. She joined the firm in 2002 and has followed her passion to serve organizations that serve our communities. While experienced in a variety of industries, Margene’s sole focus is the exempt organization sector.

Margene is involved at the partner level on engagements, focusing on serving nonprofit organizations. She is experienced in audit, review and compilation engagements. Other areas of service include: Single audits and other matters relative to federal grants; Exempt organization tax compliance; Property tax preparation; Consultation regarding internal controls; Planning and research of tax issues related to organizational structure complexities for nonprofit entities; Address issues with IRS, state and local tax authorities on behalf of nonprofit entities.

Margene holds an Associates Degree in Science from Kankakee Community College in a Bachelors of Arts in Accounting from Goshen College. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.

A native of Tolono, Illinois, Margene is an avid basketball player and a huge fan of professional hockey. She is a Bethany Christian Schools Girls Basketball volunteer assistant coach, a graduate of the Elkhart Leadership Academy, has graduated from the Convergence Coaching’s Transformational Leadership Program, and has been on Michiana’s Forty under 40. Margene enjoys spending time with her family and Shiba Inus.
